Carol brings over two decades of leadership experience in the energy, infrastructure, and consumer sectors. Prior to joining the Alliance in August 2025, she served as Strategy Director for Sustainability, Thought Leadership & International Operations at Schneider Electric, where she helped shape the company’s global sustainability agenda and advanced programs that expanded energy access to tens of millions of people worldwide.
Prior to that, Carol was the Country President for Schneider Electric East Africa, becoming the first Kenyan woman to lead a multinational energy company in the region. In that role, she oversaw strategic growth across multiple business lines, strengthened country partnerships, and scaled access-to-energy programs. Before Schneider Electric, she held senior roles at General Electric (GE), where she led regional sales and commercial expansion across Sub-Saharan Africa, and earlier spent five years with Unilever, where she built foundational expertise in operations and commercial functions.
Carol is also a passionate advocate for women in STEM and inclusive growth. She actively mentors young professionals through initiatives such as the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and Go Green City, and champions the empowerment of women and youth in Africa’s energy transition. She has also previously served in the Schneider Electric’s Inclusion & Care Advisory Board and the French Chamber of Commerce- Kenya.
She holds a B.Sc. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Nairobi, an MBA from Strathmore Business School, and is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Over the past decade, she has led initiatives that connect clean energy to job growth, livelihood development, enterprise growth, women’s economic empowerment, and poverty reduction—working with partners such as the Rockefeller Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, Gates Foundation, IKEA Foundation, FCDO, and the World Bank, among others.
At Global Energy Alliance, Makena’s work sits at the intersection of energy and opportunity, ensuring that electrification fuels job creation, agricultural transformation, climate resilience, and improved quality of life. She has mobilized millions in funding to scale productive uses of energy as a driver of socio-economic empowerment, advised social enterprises across Africa, integrated energy solutions in humanitarian and low-income contexts, and contributed to global thinking on how energy access underpins socio-economic transformation.

Rizky has more than 15 years of experience in project management, business development, and stakeholder engagement. Previously, he worked at RMI for 4.5 years, building the RMI team and portfolio in Indonesia in 4 sectors (power, transport, industry, and built-environment) from 1 to 6 people. Before joining RMI, Rizky worked with GIZ GmbH for 8 years as the team leader for the ASEAN-German Energy Program, managing the implementation of EUR 7 million projects with 8 staff on various sustainable energy activities in the Southeast Asia region jointly with the ASEAN Center for Energy.
Rizky obtained his master’s degree in Sustainable Resource Management from the Technical University of Munich, where he also worked part-time in Linde AG on European-scale procurement projects and Holzforschung München on palm oil bioenergy research. Before graduate school, he also worked for almost four years as Implementation Manager in Indonesia’s largest state-owned bank (Bank Mandiri), where he managed the company’s strategic project and corporate clients, including oil and gas companies (Chevron, ConocoPhillips, etc).
In 2022, he was awarded ASEAN Excellence in Energy Management by the Individual of ASEAN Energy Awards 2022 from the ASEAN Center for Energy for his long work and contribution to clean energy development in all ten ASEAN countries. Additionally, he was also selected as one of three RMI 2022 Emerging Leaders due to his growing work in Indonesia.
