Key Facts
To achieve universal electricity access by 2030 in LAC, stakeholders must recognize that traditional approaches alone will not bridge the final gap.
LAC UAC is supported by GEAPP, the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) among others.

The Latin American and Caribbean Universal Access Coalition (UAC) Report presents a comprehensive strategy to achieve universal electricity access across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) by 2030.

“Electricity is a basic need without which kids can’t study, health services can’t perform, and economies can’t grow. We can achieve universal electricity access by 2030 if we apply bold action, innovation, and unprecedented collaboration,” said said Isabel Beltrán, Vice President, Latin America & the Caribbean for GEAPP.

The Latin America and Caribbean Universal Access Coalition report highlights that the region has made notable progress in connecting citizens to electricity. However, the most marginalized and geographically isolated communities continue to face significant barriers. Many of these areas lack basic infrastructure and face economic disadvantages.

In response to these challenges, the Coalition has identified five key outcomes necessary to reach universal electricity access in the region:

  • Enhanced knowledge creation and sharing across the region
  • Strengthened policy and regulatory environments at national and regional levels
  • Increased technical capacity to plan, develop, and operate energy access projects
  • Improved livelihoods through energy access for households, businesses, and public facilities
  • Mobilized human and financial resources

Universal electricity access in Latin America and the Caribbean is both a moral imperative and an achievable goal. By working together, governments, private sector entities, communities, development partners, and philanthropists can ensure that no one is left in the dark. The path forward is clear.
