The Energy Transition Dialogues 2023

The Energy Transition Dialogues brought together domestic and international stakeholders to deliberate on and devise solutions to key issues to further a people positive energy transition around the world. The Dialogues utilized multiple formats, including closed-door and public discussions, to identify collaborative pathways for consolidating existing work in this arena and creating new self-sustaining networks for further collaborative actions to accelerate the energy transition.

• The three-day event started with a welcome address by Ravi Venkatesan, Chairman, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) where he shared that the global transition to renewables is not only a  defining challenge for our time but also a massive economic opportunity.
• Eric Garcetti, US Ambassador to India, emphatically added that India is the most important country for the USA, and their relationship is the most defining relationship of the century.
• The winners of GEAPP’s annual initiative ENTICE (Energy Transitions Innovation Challenge) were awarded on the first day of the Dialogues by G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant. 
• Many high-profile dignitaries, such as Hardeep Singh Puri, Piyush Goyal, Suman Bery,  V. Anantha Nageswaran, Tarun Kapoor, and Amitabh Kant from the Government of India, were in attendance as delegates for the three-day event. The Indian government stakeholders highlighted the crucial role of climate finance and technology transfer in hastening the process of energy transition. According to them, the energy transition pathway is challenging but not very difficult. India is currently seeing exponential growth and demand for energy. To ensure energy security, affordability, and environmental protection, the country has to utilize renewables, green hydrogen, and biofuels for a sustainable and clean energy future.
• Many dignitaries from the Global South countries and institutions also graced the occasion. Government representatives from Indonesia, Brazil, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, and Malawi shared their valuable insights. Global South representatives highlighted the need to have equitable access to clean energy, technology transfer and capacity building, advocating for increased financial and technical support to overcome constraints.
• Several female representatives from the Global South were present as delegates for the three-day event. Kerryne Z. James, Minister for Climate Resilience, the Environment, and Renewable Energy Grenada, Sue Lund, Just Energy Transition Investment Plan Project Management Unit, South Africa, and Emily Barran, Lead for Green Industrialization, Climate Action Platform for Africa, Kenya were some prominent women leaders who shared their thoughts. 
• Industry partners shared their concerns and challenges about climate risk, pricing, and investment in the energy sector as well as opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. 
• Alliance partners and philanthropic organizations shared their ideas as well as willingness to become partners in the process of clean energy transition.
• Rick Duke, Deputy Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, USA, gave a keynote address highlighting the shared commitment to energy transition of both countries.  He also outlined the potential for collaboration in various sectors, including nuclear energy, hard-to-abate industrial sectors and electric vehicles, in the context of a US-India Clean Energy Corridor. 
• Carlos Favaro, Minister of Agriculture, Brazil closed the session with his ministerial address where he emphasized Brazil’s commitment to renewable energy and biofuels, highlighting the country’s successful programs in these areas over the past few decades. He expressed hope that the global biofuel alliance could serve as an institution to encourage the production of clean and renewable energy.
