Mission 300
About Mission 300
Reliable, affordable, sustainable energy provides the foundation for economic transformation, public services and job creation. Yet nearly 600 million people in Africa — 85 percent of the world’s unelectrified population — still lack electricity, and population growth continues to outpace new connections.
Mission 300 aims to connect 300 million people in Africa to electricity by 2030. Estimates suggest about half of households can be connected through expanded power grids, while the rest will gain access through off-grid solutions like mini grids and solar home systems.
A partnership between the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank Group, with support from The Rockefeller Foundation, Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, and Sustainable Energy for All, Mission 300 translates commitments into implementation through national energy compacts, economy-wide reforms, investment programs, technical assistance and private sector mobilization.
Mission 300 has been endorsed by 48 countries and the African Union, establishing a continent-wide commitment, with 30 countries launching National Energy Compacts so far.
Global Energy Alliance is proud to be a founding partner of Mission 300, working alongside governments and partners to help turn national commitments into delivery. We support countries across the energy value chain, strengthening grids, accelerating last mile and distributed energy solutions and investing in initiatives that translate energy into jobs and opportunities – creating the enabling conditions to attract further investment and scale access.
As part of this work, Global Energy Alliance is supporting the establishment, staffing and operationalization of Compact Delivery and Monitoring Units in 15 countries. These country-led units coordinate, drive and track implementation of National Energy Compacts, helping translate reform commitments and investment priorities into tangible progress for people and communities across Africa.
