Background

From 4th to 6th September 2023, Kenya will co-host the inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS) with the African Union Commission (AUC) in Nairobi. Under the leadership of H.E. President of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, the ACS will bring together leaders from Africa and beyond; development partners; IGOs; private sector; academia; civil society organisations; women and youth to design and catalyse actions and solutions for climate change in Africa by providing a platform to deliberate on the nexus between climate change, Africa’s development reality, and the need to push for increased investment in climate action globally, and specifically in Africa.

GEAPP’s Support for ACS

GEAPP is honoured to be one of the sponsors of the Africa Climate Summit. Our partnership with the ACS is rooted in practical support, technical expertise, and funding. It is part of our shared mission of working with dedicated partners and governments in Africa and around the world, as well as with the private sector, civil society and philanthropic institutions.

We are grateful for the opportunity to support the Government of Kenya in building ACS as a platform for collaboration, where the interests of Africa and the global community are harmonized to achieve our common global climate goals under the Paris Agreement.

Joseph Ng’ang’a, GEAPP’s Vice President of Africa, was appointed by HE President Ruto as CEO of the ACS. He is seconded independently from GEAPP, where he is leading the ACS secretariat, overseeing the planning and coordination of all activities related to the summit.

GEAPP shares the vision that the inaugural ACS marks a critical opportunity for African leadership in uniting the world in practical action around the urgent climate change agenda. The summit is an inclusive and collaborative forum for African nations to address climate change while advancing Africa’s interests and priorities, including sustainable, socio-economic development, including accelerating universal access to clean energy.
