Collen Zalengera R.Eng. PhD MSc BSc

Country Delivery Lead, Malawi

Collen Zalengera is the Country Delivery Lead in Malawi for the GEAPP, leading the delivery of the National Transformative Energy Program in Malawi. He has over 10 years of experience in renewable energy for sustainable livelihoods. His experience covers techno-economic feasibility studies; engineering design and supervision; technical and economic appraisal, and financial modelling of energy projects; energy policy analysis; energy regulatory structures; energy planning; environmental impact assessments for energy projects; professional development training design; and energy efficiency approaches, and research for development.

Collen has been involved in development of on-grid and distributed renewables (for communities, institutional, agriculture value chain, and water supply) in Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia. He has also been engaged in developing and reviewing national energy policy and regulation frameworks in Malawi. He is a professional engineer registered with the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI). He is a member of Engineering Registration Council of MEI. He has also served in government and public institution committees. Academically, he holds a PhD that led to the implementation of, respectively, 1 MW and 300 kW of solar power plants on Likoma and Chizumulu islands, and an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technologies from Loughborough University. He also holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from University of Malawi.
