Mafalda Duarte is the Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, which she joined in August 2023. For decades, Duarte has challenged business to drive innovative and pioneering development and climate-responsive investments.

Prior to her current role, Duarte was CEO at the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) from 2014. In this position, she led the strategic and policy-related efforts to advance the CIF model, steering a multibillion-dollar portfolio of investments that pushed the frontiers of clean energy, sustainable land management and resilience across more than 70 middle and low-income countries. She also several held senior positions at the African Development Bank and the World Bank, where her work focused on climate finance.

She holds a Master’s in Economic Policy Management from Columbia University, specialising in climate change and sustainable development.
