BESS Consortium Engine Room

The Engine Room is a coalition of think tanks, market specialists and GEAPP helping countries translate their storage ambitions into well-designed and sustainable BESS projects. It supports countries from early preparation and technical assistance to capacity building, advocacy, and digital tools. It also links projects with capital and provides implementation support and oversight.
  • Global BESS Knowledge Hub – A digital platform for data, insights, and resources on BESS, where partners can both access and contribute knowledge.
  • Regional Technical Assistance Pools – Joint funding from GEAPP and partners to advance projects, policies, and business models, building a 5 GW pipeline across consortium countries.
  • Global BESS Advocacy Support – Drive visibility and momentum through strategic convenings, communications, and collaborations, helping set global and national targets.
  • Private Sector/Industry Platform – Engage private players by sharing project pipelines, market intelligence, access to financing and participation in bids across regions.

Joint Technical Assistance Platform (JTP)

The Joint Technical Assistance (TA) Platform streamlines support for BESS by aligning partners and focusing resources on high-impact activities across the project lifecycle. It provides upstream support such as building capacity, shaping policies, and preparing roadmaps, as well as downstream support, including energy modeling, business models, financing, permitting, and tendering. Anchored by the BESS Consortium Engine Room, the JTP brings together donor funds, MDBs, and private sector contributions into a coordinated mechanism for technical assistance.
